Day 2

I found out that there is a small gym that can be used by people at our company just down the road from where I work. It is too far to walk to (and the roads are busy anyway) but I thought it would be cool to go there in the summer (especially when it is way too hot to be walking outside anyway) and go for a lunch time walk. First though I need to get my car back so I can drive there!! Oh well. Am having fun anyway. I bring a book or magazine and my lunch and sit outside (there is a very beautiful area right there that I can sit at). Unfortunately today has been rainy so I couldn't stay out there all of my lunch hour. But it was nice to be out there for a while.

We came home and worked out. It was a leg day and my legs now hurt!!! It will be so much fun working tomorrow...

Working woman

I just had my first day of work. Right now I am going in at 8:30am and getting out between 5 and 5:30 but this is for training. I will be training for the rest of this week and next week (minus Monday which is a holiday). It was really fun... there were 6 of us "newbies" who are in training together. There are 2 of us girls and 4 guys. We are the ginney pigs since they haven't ever done this kind of training before. The girl and I got along right away and were having a lot of fun training together unfortunately we are not in the same department (although we are on the same floor of the building). We will be meeting with HR tomorrow for most of the day for training about the company and our benefits that we will be getting.

When I start actually doing my job I will be on the 5th floor of a 5 floor building and overlook I-75 (although it may not sound cool I am so excited... this is something that I was really hoping... I wanted to work in a place where there would be windows and I could see the "city life"). I also don't know what my hours will be (I could go in anywhere between 8am and 11am and get out after 8 hours of work... latest being 8pm). I am hoping to have a shift that starts at either 8am or 9am but I am not getting my hopes up since I will be new.

I met the COO of the company today. He was walking around while I was doing some job shadowing and the guy I was shadowing introduced me to him. Everyone in my department seem really laid back and we joked around while I was learning how they take calls and whatnot. I worked with the head of the Tier 1 Tech. Support department and his second in command. They were a lot of fun. I found out that the department head (Joe) grew up and lived in Queens, NY until he was in his mid 20's. When he interviewed me I thought he had the accent but I didn't want to ask anything. It was pretty cool. Also, the guy I shadowed lived in Long Island, NY until he was 16. So I was having fun listening to their accents!!

Last day of freedom...

This is my last day before I start a new job... and I am excited... especially that I will be making money and will be able to meet some people from the area. But at the same time I have really enjoyed the freedom of not having the commitment of a job. I am just hoping that I get along with everyone and that I can have fun while I am there. I always really enjoyed the people that I worked with before and hope that I can find something like that at this job.

So, how am I spending the last day of freedom? Well, without a car it makes it difficult to go anywhere so I am staying at home and painting my toenails, watching some TV, cleaning up a bit, and playing some games on the computer. Should be relaxing. Which is good.

I am looking forward to next weekend being that it is going to be the 4th of July. I absolutely love fireworks and we will be going downtown to watch the fireworks. I can't wait. It should be really crowded but really fun.

Lazy Sunday

So today when I got up I thought it was like 3:00 or something... get out of bed and downstairs and with my glasses on I notice its on 9:00. Very cool!! I didn't sleep in too long then. What have I done today you ask... I played Warcraft. That is all. I have basically played the game since then. I love casting spells... way cool. And yes, this is how I am spending my last bit of freedom before beginning a new job. Not overly exciting or anything but it is the most fun.

I decided that something productive would have to come from my day so I did a pilates video. It does call for some movement and I feel better after doing one the video. Very nice!!

Last night a couple came over that I had never met before. They were really cool. He is going to college and she is an engineer. They just got a new car and it was the new color of orange that I am seeing more and more of. The first time I saw the color about a year ago I didn't like it but now it has grown on me. I really think its a very neat color! If I leased my vehicle I would have really thought about having the car in that color. We ate dinner here and one of my roommates cooked. He made fish... it was very good. We had a little wine with it. I had a very little bit and I was drunk enough. I haven't drank in so long!! It was a fun night!

Welcome to Saturday!!! Next week at this time I will be way more excited that it is the weekend... that being after I worked 4 days!!! Get some money rolling in... it will be very nice! Watched the movie The Others this morining... it was on TBS. Pretty good... not as scary as I expected but a good twist... did like it!

I am also learning a new game... Warcraft. My guy is up to level 3 already which I think is pretty cool. I am having a lot of fun with the game. I am having to go on quests but also have to set up towns. It's almost like they put Star Craft and Zelda or something together... its pretty cool!!

Another day... Another blog!

I haven't been running as much as I used to but I don't have a treadmill or elliptical here and it can get so hot outside. Right now actually it is raining so I am doing some laundry. I have gained some weight again since I have been down here. The change has really messed up my workout routine. But I am now getting back to a good one. This time I am doing more lifting than running but I am still trying to do my sit-ups everyday. I will see what happens once I start the new job (what time I go in and get out) and try to insert a running routine in there as well. With the weight training workouts though I am actually getting a good cardio work out. I am lifting heavier weights and doing them quicker which I heard elevates your heart and does a cardio workout with it. Double bonus!! Also I am trying to eat very healthy... keep my metabolism strong to continually burn calories. Although I try not to I still seem to add a little bit of chocolate to my diet. It is so hard for me to cut that out but I am working on it. I did go for a few days with out it but my head just started pounding... a sure sign of addiction!!

Even though I live in the south I think I may need to get a good tanning package as well... I have only been able to sit outside 1 time since I have been down here... just been so busy!! And when I am not busy it seems to rain. There are a lot of places here that I can go tanning and just like you I feel so pasty white!! I don't know if other people see the same thing (kinda hope not) but I know that’s what I see when I look in the mirror!

Yesterday there was another first but this one wasn't so good... I saw my first huge cockroach in the kitchen. It was disgusting. I screamed so loud I scared everyone in here... including the cockroach I think because no one could find it again. My heart was just a pounding... it came out of no where!! Yuck!!!!

Cow's Opinion

So, I begin working in less than a week. Crazy!! I have gotten used to having all this free time. Oh well. I need the money more. Also, one of my roommates also got a new job and it starts on Monday. Crazy that we both start new jobs next week.

Yesterday we set up the new (well, new to us) weight equipment. Nice to have some more stuff to work out with. We also had to move a ton of boxes that were in our way. It was a full day job but its nice to have it done.

Today I have been very busy... jk!! I have cleaned the bathroom and kitchen (which by the way were really dirty) and I did some light grocery shopping. I don't have a vehicle and a roommate was going shopping so I was more than happy to go with.

Player 1 has been eliminated...

I keep doing stupid things and hurting myself!! A couple days ago I was working out and I scraped my knee with the weight bench (there was a screw that was sticking out) and then yesterday with the bar I scraped it against my knee and now have a little burn on it too. Then yesterday a roommate and I were cleaning out the weight area and we decided to put a fan in there. There is only one fan here and it only had the back part of the fan guard still attached (no clue what happened to the front piece). We didn't know if it would work so we plugged it in. It didn't make a sound or do anything so I decided to pull around on it to see if anything would make it work. I didn't think and moved the back guard. When I did that it started working and a metal fan blade sliced 2 of my fingers. It started to bleed so I ran up the stairs to clean it out and I slammed my foot into the stair. So both hurt. I cleaned out the cuts and put some bandaids on them to stop the bleeding. I then noticed that not only did I slam my foot into the stairs I also ripped part of the toenail on my large toe. Then today we were out eating at a restaurant and I went to get up. When I went to push the chair back I moved the pressure funny and my foot slipped. The toe slammed into the bar under the table and of course it had to be on the toe that I hurt yesterday. I did everything I could to not scream and cry. I was actually scared to look at it... I knew it would be bleeding. When I finally looked it was bleeding and it was pretty bad. Actually... that was about 8 hours ago and I keep having to clean it out. It is so sore!!!

I saw the new Harry Potter movie on an IMAX screen. It was very cool to see it that large!!! I definitely think that more movies should be played on that size screen. I saw the second Harry Potter movie on Friday afternoon. Good thing too because I tend to forget movies after a few days and it makes it a lot easier to see a sequel after just watching the last one. Good story line... and there were some scary parts. A few of which made me jump. I haven't ever read the books but I really want to. I think it would be pretty cool to actually read them especially since everyone says they go along pretty well with the movie.

I also saw the Chronicles of Riddick. Very cool... lots of action. Some cheesy parts but you have to expect that... over all though very good.

Rise and shine... time to shop!!

Ok... so to say a little bit more about this new job.

They are mailing me the final papers via Fed Ex and I will start next week. I think that is pretty good... all within a month of moving here. I will be considered Tier 1 Technical Support (aka Help Desk). It is a full time job with benefits and I think it will be an excellent company to work for. They are a technology related company that does telephone and internet support via Voice Over IP for small businesses. I am very excited.

It is a beautiful area... on the foothills of the mountains. Also, the building that I am going to be working in is in a built area... with lots of big buildings!! I am so very excited... somewhat of a feel of NYC (of course not the same... but darn close)!! And you know how I feel about Manhattan.

I will be driving about an hour to work and back with is a pretty typical drive for this area. I am very lucky that I have gotten such a great opportunity so quickly. Everyone I talked to was very similar to me... wanting to learn more and to keep growing in the Information Technology field.

I will keep you posted on how my job is going once I start.

Yesterday was a very lazy day. I cleaned a little bit, painted my toe nails, and watched Newly Weds on MTV. There was a marathon of the second season because the third season started last night. It was so much fun to watch and I haven't really sat down and watched much TV. Even though I have had time off I have been filling my time with other things.

Today is another shopping day. Rise and shine... time to shop!! I want to get some groceries... again... and I want to look at a few other stores. I have already sun bathed so I have finally been able to get some sun!! But now I am sweaty and in desperate need of a shower.

LATA!!

I AM NOW EMPLOYED!!!

I just got a call... I will start soon with my new job!!! Woo hoo!! They are Fed Ex'ing the papers to me!!

The state where ya never find a dance floor empty

Ok... I had the interview. Went pretty well I do think. I will find out by the end of the week if I have the job or not. I am really thinking that I will but I won't know for sure for a few days probably. I really like what I have heard and they seem pretty laid back on dress code and what not which will be very fun.

So... I think tomorrow I will finally try to get my white ass outside and get some color. Hopefully it will be sunny!!

I also got an estimate done on my vehicle... since I got in the accident I finally got into gear and got it done... ouch!!! It will be at least $3,000. Good thing for insurance!!! I should only have to pay about $500 of that cost.

So, Dustin, you made my day... anyone else who wants to know why can look at the comment from yesterday!! Very cool... keeping up on my music scene... very cool!!!

You know the type loud as a motor bike but wouldn't bust a grape in a fruit fight

I have another interview for tomorrow with the CBeyond Communications company. I am pretty excited!!! It is in the next town over (hour or so to get there) and I really liked what I heard last time I was there. I need to brush up on how to get to the company and what not but overall I am ready to go.

Ok... so I went to do some grocery shopping today (which I tend to do a lot of don't I) and ended up going to Marshall's as well. I fell in love with the store. Serious name brand prices pretty cheap. In fact I spent $2 on an Express shirt!!! Unbelievable. I had some fun!!

Tonight I am going to a friends house. It should be pretty cool since I haven't been there before.

I will keep you updated on the job hunt!!

Fuddruckers

Another first... checked out Fuddruckers... very good!! Yummy... if you don't know what it is or haven't been there before check out the link. It's a pretty cool place. You order your food and then they have a ton of condiments that you can add to it.

I also checked out a store called Off Broadway Shoes... oh wow... I was in heaven!!!! There were just rows and rows and rows of beautiful shoes... I wish I had a job just so I could shop in that store. I couldn't work there though... I would have less money then I do right now if I did that. And the greatest part is that it was a clearance warehouse. Shoes... on sale... does it get any better than that??

I checked online again today for jobs. I found another 5 or 6 that I was qualified for that was in a reasonable driving distance. I will keep you posted as to what happens with the job hunt.

Other than that its been a very relaxing day. I have really enjoyed my weekend so far... all that can screw it up is if the Pistons lose... I will be rooting away later tonight!!! Go team go!!

Troy is everything they say it is and more...

Had a really fun day today. I actually got up by 8:00am... well... I was woken up but who is splitting hairs... but 10:30am we were in the next town over watching the movie Troy. Now I am generally into the really girly movies but I really liked this one. It was beautifully shot and an excellent story. I hadn't known much about that story (I know, I know... I need to catch up on my Greek mythology) but it was a beautiful love story and an excellent fight movie. I don't think they could have made it any better. Click on the link to learn about the movie. I would definately recommend it if you haven't seen it yet.

Well, that wasn't the only movie I saw... also saw Stepford Wives... it was alright... not what I expected but it was pretty funny.

Since the movie theater was in the mall we had to do some shopping as well... but as usual with me one mall isn't enough so we went to another town and to another mall. The second mall I had never been to before... it was alright... there were others around here that I like more... so I will probably go to those instead but it was nice to see. We also pick up some weights while we were out so we can do some more lifting. Try to get in shape... or at least work off all the ice cream!!

I said good day!

Well, well. So I have had a pretty relaxing day... was able to get some laundry, make some dinner, and watched Harry Potter 1 and 2. I hadn't seen either of them but should be going tomorrow to see the 3rd so I needed to get myself caught up.

Was offered a job today but had to turn it down... unfortunately. I would have been able to start Monday but wouldn't have been paid enough to make the 4 hour drive every day worth it. And the four hours would be in regular traffic... not the rush hour traffic. And there wasn't much opportunity to advance in the IT industry and it seemed a little hoaxish to me. So, I said thanks but no thanks. I haven't heard back from the company that I really liked yet... hopefully soon though. I am keeping my fingers crossed.

So, I got a comment back on my star craft playing today. I think they were making fun of me though. Is that weird?? I mean some guy I don't know is reading my blog and making fun of me... what is that?? I didn't know I was that exciting... but I guess I am. Next thing you know I will have a super ego. Hehe!!

Wanta piece of me??

I have been busy... which is defiantly a good thing. I had an interview yesterday in a neighboring town. Loved it... would be about an hour away (which here it is normal) and it would be excellent pay and benefits for me. I would be doing help desk phone operations. I would have a lot of opportunity to advance and the company is growing rapidly. I emailed a thank you note to them and they replied... "Thanks for the note. Both of us thought that you did really well. Hopefully we'll have a decision made very soon. I'll let you know as soon as I have some news." So I think that is a positive thing... now I just have to see if they like me most. It's pretty cool too because it is surrounded by big buildings... oh yeah!!

I also had an interview today but unfortunately it was about 2 hours from where I am living. So... I don't think a 4 hour drive (and that is with no traffic... not on rush hour) is going to work for me. They would have to pay me a crazy amount of money for it to work out for me. But since I had driven that far I figured I might as well go to the local mall... I mean, why not?? So I found myself another mall... the funny part was I had no idea where the mall was located in the town and I get lost so easily but I found my way there without any detours and without a map. Crazy how I have like a radar sense for such things. It was a really nice mall. I had fun looking around. Afterwards I had some time so I went to another mall to return something that I had purchased before. On my way home from there I did get lost (never fails... I always must). It will be nice when I have gotten this town down a little bit better and can get around without getting lost... it will happen, oh yes!

When I got home I had an email from another person wanting to set up an interview. Sounds cool to me. So I should have an interview on Monday. I will need to find out where to go and what times and what not... but cool. Its always good to have options!! I am an options girl!!

So, its another beautiful day here... 90 degrees. Loving it!! Hope you are having a fun Thursday... I am watching the Pistons tonight... they better win!!

Tuesday, June 08, 2004

They like me... they really like me!

New day... but its still early. It's actually cool here... like in the 60's. I need to go running soon while its still cooler.

I did a little grocery shopping yesterday and when I was in Target a huge storm came thru. I played around in Target for a while but ended up leaving when it was still raining. I had to go to Kroger after that and while I was in there the power went out. Kinda scary standing in the middle of a Kroger with no lights. Luckily it didn't take too long for the power to come back on. But as I was leaving Kroger it was pouring!!! I got soaked!! But not to worry... it was pretty warm and it didn't take long for me to dry off.

Watched game 7 of the Stanley Cup championship last night. It was cool to see. Tampa Bay won. They did very well.

I just got a call from one of the recruiters... I will have an interview with a hotel company on Thursday morning at 9:30am. I am very excited to get a call. Nice to have an interview although I don't know much more about the interview yet... they will send me an email with more details once all the details are ironed out between the recruiting company and the hiring company. Wish me luck.

Well, I have a few things I want to get done today so I better get going. LATA!

International known and locally respected...

a good little saying... and I think its fitting for the Pistons right now!! They did a fabulous job against the Lakers last night in a beautiful victory!! Reading the articles that came out after the game I think everyone was pretty surprised that they won. Not getting the respect they deserve... its all about the defense! Check out the article if you want (linked above).

Yesterday was a pretty lazy day for me. Got up at like 1pm (I went to bed about 4am or so) played some SC. I won a few games again!! Pretty cool. I looked online to see if anyone was playing UT but there was no one on. Took a nap... hehe. Then I made dinner and watched the Pistons. Very nice.

Today is a day of organization. Its hard to do cooking with out the proper equipment so we found the kitchen boxes in the garage and I am going to set things up for the kitchen. It will be nice now because I will know exactly what I still need to get.

There has been some problems for us with a leaking sink in the bathroom. It only leaks when it wants to though so we don't know what to do to take care of it. I want to get some plastic tubs and organizers so it doesn't destroy the things that we have to put under the sink (the only storage in the bathroom). I also put down some plastic right under where the sink is to help it from spreading all over the bathroom. I am definitely not qualified to fix the thing though.

Check you LATA.

I'm Super... thanks for askin!!

Ok... 2 words for you... SUPER TARGET!!! Need I say more. I am so excited... there is actually a super Target and its super close to me!!! I had gone to the super Walmart before (oh, and in case you didn't know super means that they put somewhat of a grocery store inside the store... giving it a feel almost like Meijers... which, by the way, I miss). The super Walmart is definitely not nearly as cool as the super Target but it has more of a grocery selection. So I have to weigh my 2 options... cooler, cleaner, prettier store or more grocery selection. They actually are so close that I could go to both if necessary... definitely will have to go to the super Target first.

We went to a party tonight for a guy leaving to go to Hawaii. He is super cool... he went on the hike up Stone Mountain with us and he had gone to Georgia Tech. He just graduated and he is going to stay with his parents for a little while and they live in Hawaii. Then he and his mother are going to spend about a month in Thailand (which is where his mother is from). He is a very interesting guy. Pretty laid back but very smart. Is was also a pretty cool party. Met a lot of really nice people that he has known and I have fun chatting with all of them.

All in all... very fun day.

A little somthin' somethin'

Another new experience for little old me... I went to Chick-fil-a. How much fun is that place. It was soooo good. I had a Chicken biscuit... yum!! The only problem for me is the chicken is fried and my stomach was a little upset with me for that but it was well worth it.

I also played Star Craft again... this time I actually won a game!!! I was so excited. I played against the computer and generally no matter what I get killed and killed bad. But I actually won!! Woo hoo!!!

I found out that one of the guys that I used to work with is going to be in town tomorrow... the only problem is it will only be for about 5 seconds. He is going from work in Florida to Texas and he has a layover here. But not long enough to get together probably. I wish his lay over would be longer. It has only been exactly 2 weeks since I moved but I do miss the people that I used to work with.

So, to all y'all working people HAPPY FRIDAY!! Luckily for me though every day is Friday... hehe! I am going to another new mall (like I haven't gone to enough) and maybe to a movie. It definitely should be fun.

LATA!

Thursday, June 03, 2004

Star Craft anyone??

So I am trying to learn the game. I am getting there. But I also have a few other things that I want to get done today. I am not leaving the house. I am doing all the little things around here that I have been needing to get done. I am doing the domestic stuff... painting my nails, paying the bills, doing the laundry, getting dinner ready. Oh yeah... I can do it all... hehe!

I also have a lot of magazines that I want to start reading and a book that I want to read. So I have got a lot on my plate without even having a job. I am trying to get it all done but I don't know if I will be able to... oh well, no hurry!! Thats the good thing about being unemployeed. The bad part... no money!!! Ahh!! And there are so many malls!

Wednesday, June 02, 2004

I'm a New Yorker but I sound southern...

Well, it has been a busy few days for me... I had an interview with a recruiter today at 2pm. It was close to downtown and it was right next to a mall that I haven't been to (can you believe there are still malls that I haven't been too yet!?!?). So, I went to the mall first and then to the interview second. It went pretty well. She explained to me how they operate and we found a couple of help desk related jobs that she is putting my resume in to. Hopefully something good will come out of it. Just in case it doesn't I will keep putting my resume out there on the internet. But basically its a waiting game until I get some calls for interviews.

Yesterday I went to the neighboring town to drop off some stuff at the Salvation Army. It was pretty interesting. But there was a Krispy Kream very close so you know I just had to stop (yummm!!). I also did some other shopping. There was a complex between here and there that looked pretty new and had some neat stores in it so I stopped there on my way back home. As I was finishing looking around (I didn't buy anything there) I was going to leave and side swiped a bright yellow Beetle. I couldn't believe it. I have been driving crappy cars for the past 7 years that I didn't care if I got into an accident. Did I ever smash it up?? No!! Now that I have had a new vehicle for 6 months I have been in 2 accidents. And how did I miss this bright yellow vehicle... I have no idea. I looked back and forth a couple of times and just completely missed it. I found out the girl who I hit just graduated high school and was working in the complex. She will be going to Georgia Tech coming up for Chemistry. She has lived for most of her life and he mother came because she lived like 5 minutes down the road. How did I learn all of this. Well, we had to wait about an hour for the police to finally show up. Found out that there had been 2 accidents at the same time on the road that the complex was on. And I guess they were pretty bad. As we were waiting one of the cars went by on a recker. It looked pretty bad. We had decided that our little accident wasn't so bad. How bad is my vehicle?? Well, not bad actually minus some yellow paint on my front bumper and a small dent on the passenger side of my car. THe bumper didn't crack or anything. I was pretty amazed at how well my car did turn out. The bumper is off a little but it wouldn't take much to get it back on. Since the accident was my fault I may have to pay the deductable to have her car fixed ($500 - ouch!) but if I do then I will probably get mine fixed since I will have already paid the deductable and it will not cost me anything to fix it.

This weekend some friends from Michigan came down with all of the stuff in a U-Haul. It was nice of them to drag it all the way here... it was a long drive for them... almost 18 hours!!! The trailer made it so they couldn't really go over 55 MPH the whole way down. But we were able to get it all unloaded rather quickly (there were 5 of us unpacking).

On Saturday we went downtown... it was nice to finally see it all. Beautiful and big. Can't wait to do some exploring. We ate lunch in the most beautiful mall... it had designers that I could only dream of affording in there!! Amazing. It was huge though and had a ton of stores in it but we were in a hurry and didn't have time to do some actual shopping. It was very cool... can't wait to go back!! I was able to meet a new friend. It was cool... he was really nice. The 5 of us went to Stone Mountain. It was a beautiful walk (warm but beautiful) and it was the most amazing view... you could see forever!! It was quite cloudy but that was good since we were standing on a huge rock... it would have been crazy hot if it had been sunny! There is a nightly laser show that is done on the side of the mountain. We walked down to the base of the mountain and sat out and watched the show. It was very cool... themed Patriotic since it was the big holiday weekend. There was music that the las show was set to and there was fireworks and everything. It was amazing!! I love fireworks!!

On Sunday we ate at Pappaduaux... it was the most amazing food... so good. And the restaurant was so gorgeous!! I absolutely loved it. It was decorated in an old style with brick walls and beautiful old bathrooms. Funny that I found the bathroom amazing but it reminded me of a restroom in an old theater or something like that. It was so cool!!! It was expensive but I can't wait to go back. We also went to a huge mall where the whole 3rd floor is the theater. We watched Shrek 2... very cute and very funny! I would defiantly recommend seeing it!! I think you will get a good laugh. especially if you liked the first one. We also did some shopping around the mall. It was pretty cool. Afterwards we got some ice cream and chilled at home. So much fun!!!

I started excercising again yesterday as well. Felt so good to finally start up again. This last week had been so crazy that I just stopped the routine. But I ran a mile... I was running 3 miles before but that was all on a flat surface... it is crazy hilly here and I feel so much more tired. As I get going I will defiantly get to go further. Got to work my lungs back up to speed. I also lifted some weights. Felt so good to do all of that!!

So, I hope that is enough reading for now...
